A Number a Callback Actually Reaches
This is the least interesting entry in the intake and the one that most often decides whether anything happens at all. A request with a number nobody answers becomes a written note into silence.
- What the desk writes down
- One telephone number that will be answered during posted hours, and one address a written note can reach. The number is optional on the form and the address is not.
- Why no number can be named without it
- A quote is a conversation more often than a document: the range comes back, a detail turns out to be different, and the difference is settled in a minute by voice or in two days in writing.
- What happens when it changes
- A number that changes is worth sending in on its own, because the desk will not go looking for a second way to reach somebody.
Why voice, on a site with a form
Every quote goes out in writing. That is not in question and it is what the record shows afterwards.
But the useful part of a quote is usually the part that needs one question answered: whether an address is the front or the service side, whether a piece of luggage is what the desk thinks it is, whether an hour can move by fifteen minutes. Those settle immediately by voice and slowly in writing, and slowly can mean the car is gone.
What the number is used for
Reaching whoever asked, about the request they made, during posted hours, Monday to Saturday, 7 am to 7 pm Central. That is the whole list.
It is not added to anything, not passed to anybody except the operator who takes the job, and not used to call anybody about anything else. This desk does not market and has nothing to market.
What happens without one
The request still goes through. It is placed, quoted and answered in writing, and it works. It is simply slower, and if a detail turns out to be ambiguous the exchange takes days rather than a minute.
When it changes
